Q1 2026 Review: Building Trust in Healthcare Staffing

What we learned, what we built, and what is next

Three months ago, we publicly acknowledged something uncomfortable: we had been solving the wrong problem.

We thought healthcare facilities needed access to more staff.

They needed access to staff they could trust.

So we rebuilt OnLocum around that insight. Here is what happened.

The Numbers

Provider Community

Our provider community has grown and evolved. We now have providers actively building their reputations through the tier system.

  • Active providers increased significantly
  • Multiple providers reached Pro tier
  • Early Elite providers emerging
  • Average reputation scores trending upward
  • Profile completion rates improved dramatically

Facility Adoption

Facilities are responding to the trust-based model:

  • New facilities onboarded across Kenya
  • Shifts posted and completed through the platform
  • High facility satisfaction rates reported

Ambassador Program

Our provider-driven growth is working:

  • Ambassadors enrolled and actively referring
  • Facility referrals submitted
  • Successful conversions from referrals
  • Rewards distributed to ambassadors

What We Learned

1. Providers Want to Build Reputation

We thought providers might resist being scored. Instead, they embraced it.

Key insight: Good providers want recognition. The reputation system gives them that.

Evidence: Profile completion jumped significantly. Providers are investing in their OnLocum presence.

2. Facilities Trust Data Over Promises

Our cold outreach worked when we led with data.

Key insight: "We have 500 nurses" does not convince. "Here is how we verify and score them" does.

Evidence: Conversion rate tripled when we focused on the reputation system in pitches.

3. Ambassadors Are Powerful

Warm introductions from providers convert better than cold outreach.

Key insight: Providers are our best salespeople. They know the facilities and their pain points.

Evidence: Ambassador referrals convert at significantly higher rates than cold outreach.

4. Trust Takes Time

Building a two-sided marketplace requires patience. Trust compounds slowly.

Key insight: Early facilities needed hand-holding. As they had good experiences, word spread.

Evidence: Facility satisfaction increased each month as the system improved.

What Worked

The Reputation System

The core of our pivot. Providers can now build portable, verifiable professional reputations.

Result: Behavior change. Better show-up rates. Higher quality engagement.

The Tier System

Standard to Pro to Elite creates clear progression and incentives.

Result: Healthy competition for advancement. Providers investing in quality.

The Ambassador Program

Turning providers into advocates for facility onboarding.

Result: Lower customer acquisition costs than any other channel.

Content Strategy

Transparent communication about our journey resonated.

Result: Strong blog engagement. High email open rates.

What We Are Improving

Mobile Experience

The web platform works, but providers need better mobile access.

Plan: Q2 mobile app redesign with offline support.

Verification Speed

Credential verification still takes 24-48 hours. Too slow for emergencies.

Plan: Direct API integration with regulatory bodies.

Rural Coverage

Our provider base is concentrated in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Plan: Targeted recruitment in underserved counties.

Facility Onboarding

Getting facilities to post their first shift is a hurdle.

Plan: Simplified posting flow. Dedicated onboarding calls.
